Commercial Fisherman Dies in His Nets

An Australian commercial fisherman, considered a legend in his hometown of Buderim, Queensland, was accidentally killed after his jacket got caught in a spool of nets he had just cast earlier this month.

The fisherman, Noel Stevenson, 45, was reported missing by his wife after not returning on time. His wife notified the coastguard late that evening. When searchers finally found him, he was rolled in his nets, dead, having drowned when the hydraulic winch that retracted the nets somehow caught him and pulled him into the net spool. 

Reportedly, his catch was also still in the nets. Known as a safe and experienced fisherman, colleagues reportedly responded with shock that such a freak accident could have happened to such an experienced fisherman. Foul play was apparently ruled out.
